Just don't be surprised by the occasional creep factor. A recommended read for fans of the surreal and thought-provoking.

Haruki Murakami's “Men Without Women” is a collection of short stories about the lives of lonely men. It has a unique flow and rhythm to the writing that Murakami is known for.

He has a talent for adding a touch of sentimentality to even the most mundane topics. The conversations in the book are very realistic and natural. It deals with themes like the search for identity and meaning, the complexities of human relationships, and how people try to connect with each other. The stories also touch on themes of memory and nostalgia, and the ways in which the past can influence and shape the present. Murakami's descriptive writing paints a clear picture in the reader's head and keeps them engaged.

One of the highlights of the collection is the “Samsa in Love” story, which is creative and full of witty lines. But, some stories, such as “Men Without Women” and “An Independent Organ” are lacklustre and forgettable. Overall, the best stories in the collection are “Samsa in Love” and “Scheherazade.”

In addition to his beautifully descriptive writing, Murakami's use of musical themes and the use of senses like smell help create a very immersive reading experience.

There are some flaws in the stories, though, which makes it an inconsistent reading experience. The stories can border on being too whiny at times. Additionally, his portrayal of women can be unnecessarily creepy and harsh.

There’s a quote in this book that does a great job of summing up his writing, “The scene seemed somehow divorced from reality, although reality, he knew, could at times be terribly unreal.” Overall, “Men Without Women” is a thought-provoking and memorable collection that fans of Murakami's will appreciate.
